In the early 1970’s, after 5 years of traveling around the world, Vince landed on the island of Japan. It was at this moment, he fell in love with the culture and landscape.

After visiting many of Kyoto's gardens and temples, it became very clear this was what he wanted to do. Over the next 3 years, he immersed himself into the culture and trained in the ancient art of Japanese landscape garden design and architecture. Vince worked as an apprentice under Mr. Toueman Sano’s 300+ year old traditional garden design firm and landscape business, Ueto Gardening Company. Mr. Sano not only is highly respected as a traditional Japanese gardener in Japan, but known internationally for his works with sculptor, Isamu Noguchi.

It was during this time in Japan, Vince was introduced to all facets of technical garden design: plant species, stone setting, arrangements, spacial balance, water features and wood construction.
